ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
We will continue with our arrival and dismissal procedures from last year. We aim to create the most effective, efficient, and, most importantly, safest student arrival and dismissal process. This plan was created with input from many stakeholders to keep our kids safe!
✅ Key Points:
- Arrival and Dismissal will follow the same procedures.
- Most of the traffic is in the back of the building, allowing- better supervision of all students.
- Special Education vans/ buses/ daycare vans will be the only traffic pattern in front of the school. This will be less hectic for our special education students and transportation services. (Green line on the diagram)
- Front Door Walkers: Children who walk from the crosswalk crossing Mill Creek Road will enter through the front of the building. These sections Violetwood, Orangewood, Orangewood Apartments and any child walking to school from the front of the building. (Orange line on the diagram at the front of the building) This door is labeled and all K-5 students walking to school from this direction will arrive and be dismissed from this door.
- Back Door Walkers 3-5 grades: Children who walk from Green Lynne, Whitewood, Green Lane and Goldenridge or any child who walks to school coming from the back of the building . Grades 3-5 students will exit the doors on the 3-5 side by the cafeteria doors. (Walkers are the Orange line on the diagram)
- Back Door Walkers K-2 grades: Children who walk from Green Lynne, Whitewood, Green Lane and Goldenridge or any children who walk to school coming from the back of the building. Grades K-2 students will exit the doors on the K-2 side by the cafeteria doors. (Walkers are the Orange line on the diagram)
- Buses will enter the bus driveway on Violetwood Drive. Car riders may NOT ENTER this road. (Yellow line on the diagram)
- Car riders will enter through the Ben Franklin Entrance to their main parking lot. (Purple line on the diagram)
- Car riders will then proceed to the back of Ben Franklin utilizing their bus loop.
- 👉 ✅ Arrival Only:
-
If you arrive BEFORE 9 am, It does not matter which side of the median you pull into. You may create multiple lanes (up to 3 lanes will fit) . Please keep your children safely inside the car until 9am, at which time you will see adults reporting to duty. They will stop traffic and cross the children.
-
If you arrive AFTER 9 am, you will see an adult at the entrance (metal gate), directing traffic. At this time, cars will use one side at a time, allowing for cars to make ONE LANE along the SIDEWALK. Please remind your children to exit on the sidewalk side of your car.
-
There may be times you will be directed to make a second lane- please ONLY do so if directed! The adults in charge will make sure the first lane is clear before sending in moving cars
- It does not matter which side of the median you pull into for arrival.
- 👉 ✅ Dismissal Only: Car riders with kids in grades K-1 will follow to the left of the median. There are cones set up and labeled for cars to pull up in the designated grade level lines. (Blue line on the diagram). We will have two lines for K since they have the most car riders.
- 👉 ✅Dismissal Only: Car riders with kids in grades 2-5 will follow to the right of the median. There are cones set up and labeled for cars to pull up in the designated grade level lines. (Red line on the diagram). We are keeping a separate line for grade 2 but combing our 3-5 lines because they do not have as many car riders.
- If you have children in the primary and upper grades, please go in the line for your youngest child. We are walking children out of the building by grade level. The oldest sibling will be lined up in the car riders lines with the youngest child's grade.
- Car riders will wait until buses leave before the car line moves to leave during afternoon dismissal.
- Car riders will exit the drop-off loop by turning right onto the bus driveway- Violetwood Drive. (Yellow line on the diagram)
- Cars riders will not move while students load and unload in the drop-off zone. The drop-off zone will be marked with cones and supervised by Mill Creek staff.
- Car riders we can not permit you to park in our front parking lot and walk your students to the building.
- Crosswalks are utilized and controlled by security and staff.
- Dismissal: Cars cannot arrive before 3:20 because of Ben Franklin's dismissal process.
Please refrain from blocking up Mill Creek Road while waiting to drop off or pick up your child. This can lead to serious accidents, especially during winter conditions. Do not pull up and create a middle lane on Mill Creek this is hazardous to other drivers. To assist with a smoother process, we will open the Franklin gate a bit earlier to allow parents to pull up in Franklin's bus loop. If needed please park in Franklin's lot instead of blocking up Mill Creek roadway. If you park in Franklin's lot you MUST park your vehicle and get out of your car to come to the sidewalk to pick up your child. We are not allowing kids to walk through the parking lot to come to your car- this is a major safety issue.
Additionally, when parking in Franklin's parking lot, please be considerate of other parents and do not block cars in. Pull into a designated parking spot to avoid inconvenience for others.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping our school community safe. Your adherence to these procedures ensures a safer environment for all our students.
